The Pacesetters began fundraising prior to the August 24 community-wide kickoff. UWCI recognized the companies with a surprise celebration. UWCI employees joined Hendricks County Senior Services, a UWCI member agency in thanking the area CEOs and company employees, mimicking Publishers Clearing House by climbing out of a van and presenting the CEO with a travelling trophy, bouquet of balloons and a cake. Lincoln Bank Corp. and CEO Jerry Engle were honored for most creative CEO involvement. Engle and other top officials from Lincoln were also presented with an autographed caricature by Indianapolis Star cartoonist Gary Varvel. Taking off on the City Slicker movie theme, bank campaign organizers encouraged employees to vote with money for their favorite “cowboy” legs from a selected group of coworkers. Proceeds were added to the United Way campaign. CEO Jerry Engle was one of the cowboy contestants. Engle also was visible and involved throughout the bank’s campaign where he recognized top performing departments or branches and committed to a corporate contribution. Duke Energy and Jim Stanley, president of the Indiana chapter, were honored for the largest increase in corporate giving. Now offering a 50 percent match to employee giving, this Hendricks County distributor of electric power and gas increased its corporate gift 47 percent or more than $21,000. This year, UWCI aims to raise $39 million to help address today’s needs and reduce tomorrow’s. |
